About The Project

Enhancing Lentil Production for Food, Nutritional Security and Improved Rural Livelihoods. Manthan has initiated several projects with the support of GOI, GOJ, Foundations and Corporates. The organization started a livelihood project in the year of 2016 among the rural community of Jhinkpani, West Singhbhum, with kind support of ACC under company’s CSR policy. The organization started the project strategically & taken all the required steps very carefully so that trust of the villagers could be gained. In this project the target group was 500 farmers & 1000s of Acre Land was covered for lentil production.

The main objective of this project is :

  • Enhancing productivity of lentil and establish it as a second crop in rice-fallows.
  • To break mono-cropping, thus increasing cropping intensity & enhanced opportunity of livelihood.
  • Produce and distribute quality seeds of farmer-preferred lentil varieties along with production technologies conservation technologies, seed priming, weed control, foliar spray of urea, etc.
  • Improve capacity at field levels for farmer-participatory adaptive research and technology transfer for adoption and expansion of improved lentil production technologies.
  • Empowerment of farmers and participating local institutions to establish village based seed system to achieve self-sufficiency in seeds of farmer-preferred, improved varieties of lentil at the village level.
  • Back-up research for further improvement of lentil varieties and refinement of production technologies.

Agriculture is main source of economy in west Singhbhum .In this area people mainly depends on monocropping i.e. paddy harvesting.They could not find themselves not much comfortable to meet their primary necessities very easily.The organization (Manthan yuva sansthan) aims to uplift the marginalized people, providing them skills for multicropping & multiskill for enhance livelihood, supported & catalized by ACC.
